Important Announcements:
Fifth Grade Finale:
Tuesday, May 20th
Fifth Grade Fieldtrip:
Wednesday, May 21st
*Summative Assessment Retakes: All students have the opportunity to retake summative assessments – regardless of their grade. Mock Writing Tests and Reading Cold Tests are an exception and cannot be retaken. Students who receive a 70 or above and would like to have a retake opportunity, must have a note from their parents requesting the retake. The retake grade will stand (even if lower) and the assessment may be in a different format than the original assessment. There will be no averages.
Parsons E-Newsletter: The Parsons E-Newsletter will be emailed on Fridays and posted on the Parsons website. If you are not receiving the emailed newsletter and would like to, please contact Donna Cross and she will make sure you are added to the distribution list.
Homework: In 5th grade, the students can expect to have 50 minutes of homework, plus at least 20 minutes of reading per night.
Weekly Grammar Homework: On Mondays, the students will copy the mentor sentence for the week and have tasks throughout the week to complete with the sentence. Weekly grammar homework is due on Fridays.
Students should always have a book to read them at school!
Weekly Reading Expectation:
All students at Parsons are expected to read a minimum of 100 minutes per week. As 5th graders, I would like my students to work toward the goal of reading at least 210 minutes per week.
Agendas: Each day, students are expected to write all homework assignments in their agenda and have their agenda signed by an adult each night.
Weekly Homework: Each week, the students will be working with mentor sentences with their grammar homework. Grammar homework will be given out on
Monday and due on Friday.
Choice Cards: Choice Cards will be sent home each Friday.
Friday Folder:
Your child will be bringing home a Friday Folder each Friday. This folder will contain class work from the week, important announcements from the school, and your child’s Choice Card. The Choice Card must be signed every week and returned along with any graded workthat has been placed in the “Return to School” side of the folder. Please keep at home everything that has been placed in the “Keep at Home” side of the folder. Students will return their Friday Folders to school each Monday with their Choice Card and any graded work that needs to be returned.
Snack and Water:
We will have an afternoon snack daily. Please send in a healthy snack with your child each day. I also strongly recommend students bring in a water bottle to have in class (bottles with sport tops are preferable). Students will only be allowed to go to the water fountain during scheduled breaks. Students should take their water bottles home daily for cleaning. Please do not put any drinks other than water in your child’s water bottle.
Birthdays and Special Events:
We enjoy sharing birthdays and special events together in our classroom. You are always welcome to send in a special
treat on or near your child’s special day. Please notify me in advance by sending a note. Please send in individual or precut cakes, cupcakes, or other treats. These treats will be enjoyed by the students during
